The Directors Reports were given;

Southwest Directors- Art and Judi Bakken- Bismarck Belles N’ Beaux square dance club dances twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturday at the Senior Center in Bismarck. The Bismarck Plus club dances the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at the Bismarck VFW Club.

Bells N’ Beaux are sponsoring lessons in Center, ND. There are 7 couples taking lessons taught by Larry Pfennig. These dancers are very enthusiastic and are excited to dance. There are 3 returning couples taking refresher lessons again taught by Larry Pfennig.

Vic and Joan Schwan are cueing and teaching round dance lessons (Oct. 18, Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Nov. 22, Dec. 5, and Dec. 13).

We are currently getting ready for the North Dakota State Square and Round dance convention. The convention hotel is the Doublewood Inn at 1400 East Interchange Ave. Square and the Round dancing will be held at the Amvets Club at 2402 Railroad Ave. Clogging will be held at the Burleigh County Senior Center at 315 North 20th Street. Currently, we have 76 people registered for the convention. The Belles N’ Beaux are working hard to make this the best convention ever and to do that we need everyone to attend. If you haven’t registered yet, please take the opportunity to pre- register this weekend and be sure to bring your club banner to the convention. There are flyers at the Days Inn and at the dance tonight.

Our annual “Driveway Dance” moved from the Vic and Joan Schwan driveway to the Mark and Bina Krebsbach driveway. For the first time ever, the dance was rained on, not out. Larry Pfennig and Cliff March moved their equipment in one garage and the dancers moved into 2 facing garages with the tornado sirens almost drowning out Larry and Cliff. A fun time was had by all.

The Belles and Beaux have taken up traveling. 10 couples from Jamestown, Bismarck, and Mandan drove to Spearfish, SD in May and danced with the Buckles and Bows. One square danced for the residents at the Valley View Assisted Living Center on Sept. 12 in Bismarck. 6 couples attended the Fall Festival dance in Minot on Oct. 10 and 5 couples dance in Martin on Oct. 12.

Circle 8 Plus Club- Fargo (submitted by Carol Currie)

The circle 8 Plus Club of Fargo- Moorhead dances on the 1st, 3rd , and 5th Saturday’s at the Glyndon Community Center in Glyndon, MN. We have 17 members in the club this year, having gained a few as a result of the plus lessons we sponsored last winter. We average about 2 squares per dance.

On Sept. 6, we hosted a 50th anniversary dance of the club, and we’re pleased to have 4 squares dancing most of the evening with several of the callers participating. We also enjoyed having a number of former members with us who did not dance, but enjoyed a chance to get together for a nice visit.

We are again planning to start a plus class this month, with our club caller, Jim Kooyer, doing the teaching. We are hoping to get more dancers started on the plus level.

We have a couple of changes to our schedule this fall. On November 15th, the hall is not available to us, so we are not having a dance that night. However, we do have 2 other dances on our regular Saturday’s in November. We also can’t get the hall on December 6th, so have changed the dance for that night to the next day, Sunday the 7th, at 2 P.M. Jim Jirak and Jim Kooyer are combining their talents to call that dance.

Prairie Promenaders- Fargo (submitted by Hella Helfter)

The Prairie Promenaders dance every first and third Friday of the month at the Madison School Community Center in Fargo. We have from one to nearly four squares at our dances. We have 28 members. The presidents are Jim and Dorothy Sanders.

There are six people learning the basic movements and doing well. We co- sponsored the Jerry Junck dance on Sept. 20 at the Cash- Wise community rooms. We had 39 people enjoying the tips and singing calls of Jerry Junck. Ice cream sundaes were served after the dance. Our dancers participated in dancing at Bonanzaville, U.S.A on Aug. 16 and 17 with Mark Helfter and Jim Lizakowski calling and at Western Days there were also Sept. 27 and at Yonkers Farm on Oct. 11.Also several attended the Rollog Threshing Weekend in Sept. at Rollog. Saturday Fun Night dances at the F-M Labor Temple, 3002 1st Ave. N in Fargo. We usually have 3 to 4 squares, but so far this fall, the dances have been small but hope to gain more dances in the future.

L & M Squares- Fargo (submitted by Peggy Moss)- L & M Squares of Fargo, ND will officially start Jan. 13, 2009. A group of eager square dancers from the surrounding area met and decided to organize a club that offers more dancing for dancers during the week (Mainstream, Plus and Rounds) and that would be advantageous to promoting square dancing in the F- M area. Club membership is open to anyone. Currently, the new club has 27 members. The Main dancing will be mainstream with rounds and 1 plus tip offered during the evening. The club will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday’s at the Cash- Wise (Community Room) 1401 33rd St. SW, Fargo, ND. Rounds start at 6:30 P.M. Schedule callers are Roger McNeil and Jim Lizakowski. Northeast Directors- Tom and Marlene Miller- Square dancing in Langdon and Devil’s Lake there is not a lot going on. Border Belles and Beaues of Langdon we only get up to 1 to 2 squares at the most at any of our dances. Our club is falling apart, which is sad because we ourselves really enjoyed it. As far as Devil’s Lake, their club is a little larger, so they do get up to 3 squares. We understand square dancing is going down all over the state. Sorry we cannot get to Bismarck on Oct. 25. There is no club up here to take on the convention for 2010.
